Rev. Dr. William Bert Neal

My Story

Rev. Dr. William Bert Neal III is a Georgia native, born in Augusta.
He is an HBCU graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. He served over
20 years in the United States Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
After retiring from the Army, Rev. Dr. Neal held several positions in metro Atlanta
and with the State of Georgia, from the Atlanta Housing Authority to the
Department of Commerce and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
Before answering the call to full time ministry, Rev. Dr. Neal was a very active
Lay Servant at Ben Hill United Methodist Church. He served as the Children’s
Minister while attending Seminary and served as the Minister of Outreach and
Social Concerns before being ordained.


He graduated with honors from the Interdenominational Theological Center,
Gammon Theological Seminary with a concentration in Christian Education.
He earned a Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in
Dayton, Ohio.


His previous pastoral assignments have been as the Associate Pastor, St. James
UMC in Alpharetta, founding pastor of Sacred Praise UMC in Lovejoy, and as
Senior Pastor of Wesley Chapel UMC in McDonough. He retired from full time
ministry on July 1, 2022. In retirement he has served as the Interim Pastor of
Suwanee Worship Center in Suwanee.


His previous service in the North Georgia Conference has been with the
Conference Board of Trustees, the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry, Order
of Elders, One Georgia Task Force, and the Administrative Review Committee.
Rev. Dr. Neal currently serves as the Interim Pastor of Warren Memorial UMC. He
is also serving as a Trustee of the Georgia Methodist Foundation.


He and his wife Denise have been married for 45 years.


His favorite scripture is 2 nd Corinthians 10:17-18, “But, Let the one who boasts,
boast in the Lord. For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved,
but the one whom the Lord commends.”
